Hillhead Primary School is a non-denominational primary in the town of Kirkintilloch in East Dunbartonshire. The Head Teacher has been in post since April 2025 and is supported by a Depute Head Teacher and a Principal Teacher. The school currently has five classes three of which are composites.

The school was opened in 1956 and its traditional classrooms and corridors have recently been given a refresh. The building consists of 5 classrooms, a library, a large MUGA, central hall which hosts PE lessons, a newly developed garden, a Nurture space (affectionately named by pupils as the Calm Cocoon), a family room which consists of a fully functioning kitchen and a learning support room. The school grounds and surrounding greenspaces around the local community are used for outdoor learning experiences and wellbeing activities at all stages.

Our associated secondary school is Kirkintilloch High School and we work closely with our cluster partners from Holy Trinity, Oxgang and Twechar primary schools. The school enjoys close community links with Saint Columba’s Hillhead Parish Church and local businesses.

We support all children and young people to be safe, happy, included and achieving their best. Curriculum for Excellence prepares our children for the future to be successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors, through the Broad General Education.

We offer a wide range of opportunities for wider achievement, including pupil leadership roles, participation groups, clubs, competitions, charity fundraising, excursions, performances and instrumental tuition.

We work in partnership with our families the school and centre. We are committed to making sure that parents are actively involved in their child’s learning journey. We ensure that families receive weekly updates and have many opportunities to participate and contribute to the wider life of the school.
